Salsa, Activities & Crafts

Hi guys! First off, I have to ask a very random question that I am guessing nobody will remember the answer to. Does anyone remember the salsa we had at the reunion? I know we had several different kinds but there was one that didn't seem like a huge brand name and was amazing. Everytime I go to the grocery store I want to find it but none of the salsas they have there ring a bell. Was it something like Jake's or something? I really don't know and just asking around to see if anybody remembers.

Paul, I love your movie idea. I think that would be a blast to do!

Also, since we are big on the theme idea, what about a game show theme. Going along with the Family Feud idea, having other nights like Harvey Idol or Harvey's Got Talent, Deal or no Deal, Price is Right, 1 vs. 100, Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune and other games like that and just creating them before we get there. I know there are games like that that you can buy but it would also be kind of fun to make them up ourselves and have our own hosts. Yes Sean, you can be Vanna White... Sorry Fred, I am trying to be much nicer to him. I will remove him from under the bus and will take responsibility for the crafts.

Another game idea is we could maybe take a long stick with a head on the end and a small circular ball, whack it around in a rhythmic fashion about 70-120 times around the land. We could pretend that the goal is to put it in certain divots (or a cup if you will)....we could do it maybe like 18 times or so. I know what you are thinking about this crazy game I just invented....that Ty is so creative.

One more idea before I leave you guys alone. It is a game called Bigger or Better and is something we could do if there is a neighborhood around. We start with a paper clip. We split into a couple teams, and go to a house. We give them a paper clip and ask if they have anything they are willing to trade us that is bigger or better. We take whatever that is and go to the next house. When I did this with a youth group, groups came back with a huge wooden cactus, a refrigerator, and a couch. As I am typing this, I can see several women in the family wondering what we would do with such an item in case we receive something of that magnitude. If it really is worth something, we could donate it or if does not have any value, we could just toss it.

I keep thinking of ideas...sorry. Maybe a family Olmpics. Also, since we have so many able bodies that week, we could go to a soup kitchen or do something in the community to help out. Fred, maybe you have a connection with the Red Cross or something? I know, it is vacation but we seem to be the kind of family that gets more enjoyment out of giving than receiving. At least, that is the impression you guys have given me in a short period of time which is a compliment in itself.

Alright, those are my thoughts, let me know what you think!

I think you are awesome and I love all the ideas.
Does seem a bummer to have to wait a whole year to put them into action, but it may take that long to get them together and organized.
The game with the long stick sounds innovative but rather boring. Maybe there needs to be a new twist. Like let's see......maybe just girls play and boys watch kids?
I love the idea of helping out in some way. Don't know if there would be a soup kitchen in the area, but it seems there must be something we could do. That was very thoughtful of you.
There was a story about the guy who did a bigger and better and started out with just a red pen, I think. He ended up getting a house!!
Love and blessings to all.

By the way, I check this site every time I get on the computer. Does any one else?

Great ideas Ty. Never heard of the Bigger & Better game, but that certainly sounds interesting. We'd be up for a service project, too!

Also, label your post as "activities".

Thanks,

Hey, I have been searching and searching trying to figure out how to put it in the activities section. Do you know how I do that now?

Okay, go back to your original post and click on the little pencil icon - that will let you edit your post. Under where you type in the post, there is a small box that says "label" next to it - type "activities" in that box, and then when you want to search all the posts for activities, that one will show up! hopefully that makes sense...

Julie, I do check this every day. What is so hard for me about all of the organizing, is that I can't tell when someone has made a comment. So...then I become this weird obsessive comment checker. Is that weird? I also agree that it is stupid to have to do the word verification...but I suppose stupid security is better than no security, right?

hayley, i too am an obsessive comment checker. i don´t like that there is no way for us to see when there is a new comment. i just have to try to remember how many each post had the last time i checked. i feel there should be better organization.
ty, i agree with mom, the game with the long stick thingy sounds unbearably boring, but if you want you could teach me. i´m sure you´d have astounding patience with someone who has never played such a strange sounding game. the other ideas sound great. ismael and i would love to volunteer in some way, too. ismael also suggested that we try to find some driftwood or something and everyone carve their own spoon for the week.

I get frustrated, too. Do you suppose another site might have it set up differently? I don't know much about them. It would be nice if you could see if there was a new comment added without having to go through all of them and why are the most recent at the bottom?
Ah computers!
